Plus we’ll be donating to International Elephant Foundation - more on this below.

‘Elephant of the Stars’ design on certified organic cotton T-shirt by EcoSoulfully.

Why are elephants important?

They are considered to be a keystone species, which means they have a disproportionately larger impact on keeping ecosystems healthy. They are essentially 'ecosystem engineers'. They help to support biodiversity by eating grasses, leaves and fruits, pulling up bushes and trees, and dispersing seeds far and wide (due to their large ranges).

They are one of the most intelligent beings on our planet; they live in matriarchal herds (with a mature female leader), express emotions, have memories, and young females in the herd look after their young together. Elephants deserve the right to live with peace and freedom.

There are only a few 'super-tuskers' left in the world - these are male African elephants with longer tusks than normal (weighing more than 45kg each). These elephants are magnificent and worth much more in tourism dollars than the cost of their ivory, should they be killed. We should keep all elephants, including super-tuskers safe, so that future human generations are able to enjoy seeing these amazing giants in their natural habitats.

Elephant with long tusks - Image by Thorsten Messing from Pixabay.

Why are elephants at risk?

There is still demand for illegal ivory so poaching is one of their biggest threats, with poachers having access to increasingly sophisticated weapons such as machine-guns.

Because elephants need to roam across large areas, they often come into conflict with humans due to crops, fences, roads and buildings, and due to human activity, natural habitats are declining, which puts elephant populations under strain.

How can you help elephants?

Only support ethical tourist organisations (for example, do NOT go on elephant rides). Be aware that most zoo elephants were stolen as babies from the wild, and elephants in zoos are only there for your entertainment, which is simply not right.

Support and donate to nature conservation organisations and wildlife sanctuaries that work to maintain elephant habitats and keep elephants safe from poaching and human conflict.

Don't buy ivory or other wildlife-sourced products, as these are often the result of hunting or illegal poaching.

Elephants in grassland - Image by Peter Eichler from Pixabay.

What's your commitment to elephants?

At EcoSoulfully, we’ll commit to donating £1 for every item sold store-wide (elephant designs and other designs) during August and September 2024 to International Elephant Foundation.

We have a wide range of beautiful and unique elephant, animal and nature art T-shirts and other apparel, including elephant super-tusker designs.

Why not wear your love for elephants with T-shirt artwork that sparks conversations about conservation?

🐘Shop Elephant Designs Collection

✨Shop All Design Collections

Social media graphic for World Elephant Day on 12 August 2024 by EcoSoulfully.

Further reading:

Elephant facts: https://www.worldwildlife.org/stories/what-s-the-difference-between-asian-and-african-elephants-and-10-other-elephant-facts

Elephant super-tuskers: https://tsavotrust.org/super-tusker-elephants-saving-the-last-of-africas-great-megafauna/

International Elephant Foundation: https://elephantconservation.org/

#elephants #supertuskers #natureconservation #wildlife #africanelephant #asianelephant #saveelephants #elephantsanctuary #babyelephant #worldelephantday #elephantshirt #elephantart #antipoaching #stoppoaching #antiivory #animalrights #endangeredspecies #keystonespecies #biodiversity #wildlifecrime #worthmorealive

Blog main image: Elephant herd by Michael Siebert from Pixabay.

There are numerous benefits to letting your garden grass, wild plants and wildflowers grow, including that your garden will be more pollinator-friendly.
